Toyota Builds Woven City Living Lab Amid Hydrogen Shift

Global interest in hydrogen as a clean energy source is growing, with various regions and companies adapting strategies to overcome challenges and accelerate development. Toyota has shifted from its initial hydrogen vehicle focus towards creating Woven City, a living lab in Japan for testing future mobility technologies, reflecting challenges in hydrogen infrastructure and cost. India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a revised scheme under the National Green Hydrogen Mission to develop Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters and Green Hydrogen Hubs, aiming to foster innovation and scale hydrogen production and usage nationally. Andhra Pradesh is also advancing a 'Hydrogen Valley' in Amaravati, emphasizing sustainable growth and contributing significantly to India's green energy targets. Meanwhile, companies like Hydrogen Utopia International are pivoting their hydrogen project focus from the EU to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, which offers a more supportive regulatory environment and strong interest in sustainable industrial solutions. The MENA region itself is experiencing a renewable energy boom, with green hydrogen and ammonia production playing key roles in the region’s decarbonization and renewable manufacturing ambitions.
