De Percin, one of four alternates for injury cover, did not make it into any matchday squad, unlike the other substitutes who played in a low-risk game against New Zealand. The regulations stipulate that an alternate must appear on the start list to receive a medal, which De Percin did not. Michael Olise, another player, was also seen without a medal after removing it in disappointment.
