Casio Cyberattack Exposes Data of 8,500 Individuals
Casio has confirmed that a ransomware attack on October 5, 2024, exposed the personal data of approximately 8,500 individuals, including nearly 6,500 employees and over 1,900 business partners. The attack, claimed by the Underground ransomware gang, resulted in the theft of more than 204 GB of data, which included sensitive internal documents and personal information such as names, email addresses, and taxpayer ID numbers. Although no credit card information was compromised, the breach also affected data related to 91 customers. Casio admitted that vulnerabilities in its phishing defenses contributed to the attack and stated it did not respond to the ransom demands. The company has launched a forensic investigation with external cybersecurity experts and is notifying affected individuals. Casio has committed to improving its security measures to prevent future incidents.
