Werner Herzog Receives Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival
German filmmaker Werner Herzog is set to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 82nd Venice Film Festival, scheduled for August 27 to September 6, 2025. Known for his influential works such as 'Fitzcarraldo' and 'Grizzly Man,' Herzog expressed gratitude for the recognition, comparing it to a medal for his dedication to cinema. Despite the honor, he emphasized that he is not retiring and is currently involved in multiple projects, including the documentary 'Ghost Elephants' and the feature film 'Bucking Fastard.' Herzog, who has directed over 70 films, has been praised by Venice festival director Alberto Barbera for pushing the boundaries of filmmaking and storytelling. Barbera described Herzog as a tireless explorer who continuously tests the limits of film language. Herzog's ongoing work includes developing an animated film based on his novel 'The Twilight World' and contributing his voice to an upcoming project by Bong Joon Ho.
