Texas Floods Kill 82; Chantal Hits Northeast
Central Texas is grappling with ongoing severe flooding and thunderstorms, with the death toll rising to at least 82 and rescue operations underway for missing campers and residents in devastated areas. The National Weather Service has extended flood watches through Monday evening, warning of further heavy rainfall and flash flood risks, particularly in the Hill Country and neighboring counties. Rain and storms are forecast to continue in North and Central Texas through Wednesday before drier, warmer weather is expected. The remnants of Tropical Depression Chantal have moved north after making landfall in South Carolina, now bringing heavy rains and flash flood risks to the Northeast, including Connecticut, and causing hazardous surf along the East Coast. Other regions, such as Michigan and Nebraska, are experiencing typical summer weather with occasional showers but no major flooding threats. Authorities urge residents in all affected areas to remain vigilant and follow local emergency advisories.
