Barcelona Rape Trial: Dani Alves in Court

Dani Alves, the former Brazil international and Barcelona defender, stood trial for allegedly raping a woman in a nightclub toilet at the end of 2022. The 40-year-old has been in prison since his arrest in January 2023. The woman, whose identity is protected, gave her statement with voice distortion and a screen to avoid seeing Alves. Prosecutors seek a nine-year prison sentence for Alves and his defense argues that the encounter was consensual and that he has suffered a 'trial by media'.
