Birrieria Familia Castro Tops Yelp Taco List

Yelp released its Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025 on Oct. 2 and crowned Birrieria Familia Castro, a family-run taqueria at 6102 Vineland Ave. in North Hollywood, as the nation’s No. 1 taco spot. The shop, opened by Gema and José Castro with their son Anthony in 2022, is known for a closely guarded birria recipe, housemade tortillas, salsas and a consommé reviewers say takes three to four hours to prepare. Diners and Yelpers praise generous portions and popular items like quesatacos, mulitas and vampiro tacos, and the restaurant’s near-perfect ratings and hundreds of positive reviews helped secure its top ranking. California dominated the list with 45 entries, including Los Angeles standouts Holbox and Mariscos El Chito in the top 10; Arizona placed eight spots and Texas followed closely. Yelp compiled the list by identifying businesses with a large concentration of “tacos” mentions and ranking them by the volume and ratings of those reviews, releasing the list ahead of National Taco Day on Oct. 7.
