South Korea Plans 500 AI Projects by 2030 with Major Industry Partners
Nonprofits are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their impact, from improving service delivery to scaling fundraising efforts, but many face significant barriers due to limited resources and technical expertise. Research and surveys indicate that while a majority of nonprofits use AI in some capacity, less than one-third feel equipped to fully leverage the technology, highlighting a critical need for increased funding and support to build AI capabilities. AI-powered nonprofits, such as Visilant in India, demonstrate how AI can enable rapid scaling and effective service delivery, screening tens of thousands of patients with plans to extend reach to over a million. However, many nonprofits, especially smaller ones with budgets under $1 million, struggle with the costs associated with AI adoption, and nearly half report increased expenses tied to implementing these technologies. Experts emphasize that AI should be viewed as a human-augmenting tool that frees nonprofit leaders from repetitive tasks, allowing them to focus on mission-critical activities like fundraising and community engagement. Meanwhile, government and industry sectors, exemplified by South Korea’s initiative to integrate AI into 500 manufacturing projects by 2030, show a parallel commitment to AI-driven innovation, underscoring the technology's broad transformative potential across sectors.
