Table Rock Fire burns 16,000 acres in Carolinas
Three South Carolina men and a juvenile have been charged with a misdemeanor for their role in sparking the Table Rock Fire, which has burned over 13,000 acres. The fire ignited on March 21 when the individuals failed to properly extinguish their cigarettes while hiking in Table Rock State Park. The South Carolina Forestry Commission reported that the fire is currently 30% contained, and no injuries have been reported. Authorities are also dealing with the aftermath of the fire, focusing on containment efforts following recent rainfall that has helped suppress the blaze. The Table Rock Fire, alongside the nearby Persimmon Ridge Fire, marks the largest wildfire in recorded Upstate history. Firefighting efforts have involved hundreds of personnel and various resources to manage the challenging terrain.
