Border talks with Assam

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced that the next round of formal border talks with Assam is expected to resume in October after months of delays due to the complexity of the disputes in six contentious areas. Sangma emphasized the importance of thorough discussions to avoid any oversights, citing regular meetings with Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The six areas under examination include Langpih, Borduar, and Nongwah-Mawtamur, which have historically been points of contention. The previous phase of talks in March 2022 resolved disputes in six of the twelve contentious areas, addressing approximately 70% of the issues. Both states are committed to cautious and detailed negotiations to ensure a peaceful resolution to the border disagreements. The ongoing dialogue aims to foster stability and cooperation between the two Northeastern states.
