Man Charged With First-Degree Assault At New London Assisted Living Facility

On July 7, a serious assault occurred at the Briarcliff Manor assisted living facility in New London, Connecticut, where a man was found unconscious and unresponsive with severe facial injuries. Police and EMS responded to the scene at 179 Colman Street, and the victim was rushed to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for critical injuries. Authorities described the attack as not a random act, and the victim was reported to be a visitor to the facility. On August 5, New London police arrested 28-year-old Matthew Ellis, a resident of the assisted living facility, charging him with first-degree assault in connection with the incident.
