Focus Features Acquires Sci-Fi Thriller Hot Spot

Focus Features has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the sci-fi thriller 'Hot Spot,' directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska, except in Poland, Greece, and France. The film, which wrapped production in Greece on November 22, features a cast led by BAFTA nominee Noomi Rapace and is set in a future where sentient AI controls society. Following a private investigator's murder case, the protagonist discovers a rebel group that threatens the digital overlord. This marks Smoczyńska's second collaboration with Focus after 'The Silent Twins.' The film's script is penned by Robert Bolesto, a frequent collaborator of Smoczyńska, and is produced by the Polish company Madants along with several international co-producers. Focus Features' Kiska Higgs praised Smoczyńska's visionary work, stating the film promises to be both visually stunning and thematically significant.
