Man Jailed for Over Eight Years After Acid Attack on Teenager in Stockport

Gilson Martins, 23, has been sentenced to eight years and two months in prison for throwing acid in the face of a 16-year-old boy during a planned attack in Stockport on March 24, 2024. The victim, who was lured to a meeting by an accomplice, suffered serious injuries and required extensive treatment at a specialist burns unit. Following the attack, Martins attempted to intimidate a witness by threatening violence, which led to his arrest by armed police on April 10, 2024. Martins pleaded guilty to robbery, possession of a corrosive substance, and witness intimidation, with his sentence also including unrelated drug offenses from 2022. Detective Constable Heather Parke emphasized the severe and life-changing effects of corrosive substance attacks, expressing relief that Martins is now incarcerated.
