Public Dissatisfaction with NHS Hits Record 59% in Major Survey

Public satisfaction with the NHS has reached a record low, with only 21% of adults expressing satisfaction and 59% indicating dissatisfaction, according to the latest British Social Attitudes (BSA) survey. This marks a significant decline from 70% satisfaction in 2010 and a drop of 39 percentage points since 2019. The survey highlights particular discontent with A&E, GP, and dental services, with A&E satisfaction falling to just 19%. Analysts describe this decline as a 'startling collapse,' exacerbated by challenges such as long wait times and perceived inefficiencies. Despite the negative sentiment, there remains a belief in the founding principles of the NHS, with many respondents advocating for increased funding and staffing. Health Secretary Wes Streeting has acknowledged the crisis, asserting that the NHS was 'broken' when Labour took office, and pledging to restore its status.
