Colt Gray, a 14-year-old, has been charged with murder following a shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia that left four dead and nine injured. Authorities had previously investigated Gray last year for a potential school shooting threat made on Discord but found insufficient evidence to pursue charges. Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum emphasized that they acted appropriately given the circumstances at the time, stating, 'We did not drop the ball at all on this.' The FBI had alerted local authorities about the threat, but conflicting information regarding the Discord account led to no arrests. Gray allegedly used a semiautomatic rifle during the attack, which marks the 30th mass killing in the U.S. in 2023. He is set to be tried as an adult, with his first court appearance scheduled for Friday.
