Tweed-New Haven Airport has reached 60% design completion for its new 84,000-square-foot East Terminal, a milestone that finalizes major decisions such as the terminal layout, footprint, and systems planning, enabling progress toward regulatory approvals and construction planning. The new terminal, located on the East Haven side of the airport, aims to reduce noise and traffic impacts on nearby residential neighborhoods by shifting aircraft ground noise and operations to a more commercial area. The project includes environmental considerations like restoring 32 acres of tidal wetlands, preserving 25 acres of grassland bird habitat, and elevating the terminal above the 100-year floodplain to enhance flood resilience.
