Vallejo Man Charged With Murder in Fatal July 5 Shooting

Jose Guadalupe Castillo, a 42-year-old man from Vallejo, was charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 45-year-old Courtney Whitney on July 5. Whitney was hit by a stray bullet that pierced her bedroom wall while she was inside her home on Admiral Callaghan Lane. Castillo, who was out on bail for a previous firearms-related arrest, was apprehended after a brief foot chase and found in possession of a firearm with an extended magazine. Police have linked the shooting to gunfire from I-80 near Whitney's residence and are investigating a potential road rage incident preceding the event. The Vallejo Police Department and the Solano County District Attorney’s Office credited thorough investigative work and public assistance in making the arrest.
