Fort Smith enforces Emergency Water Conservation after 24-inch Main Break

A 24-inch water main broke near the intersection of Phoenix and Leigh avenues in Fort Smith, prompting emergency Phase II water conservation measures citywide. Repairs began promptly on Sunday and continued into Monday and Tuesday, with city crews working to restore the line while residents experienced low water pressure and occasional service interruptions. The city has urged residents to limit non-essential water use, including prohibitions on lawn irrigation, car washing, filling swimming pools, and exterior surface cleaning, until further notice. Leigh Avenue was closed between Airport Drive and Phoenix Avenue during the repairs.
