Jamaican Seville Wins 100m Gold, Ends US Reign Since 2015
Oblique Seville of Jamaica won the men's 100 meters gold at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo with a personal best of 9.77 seconds, leading a Jamaican 1-2 finish as Kishane Thompson took silver in 9.82 seconds. Defending champion Noah Lyles of the United States earned bronze with a time of 9.89 seconds, marking the first time since 2015 that the U.S. did not win the title. Seville, who had been favored in the previous Olympics but finished last in the final, demonstrated strong focus and performance throughout the event, impressing in front of Usain Bolt, the last Jamaican to claim the title. Botswana’s Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo was disqualified after a false start in the final. In the women's 100 meters, American Melissa Jefferson Wooden captured gold with a championship record of 10.61 seconds, while Jamaican Tina Clayton and Olympic champion Julien Alfred took silver and bronze, respectively.
