Pope Expels 10 from Peruvian Catholic Movement

Pope Francis has expelled 10 members, including a bishop, priests, and laypeople, from the Peruvian Catholic movement Sodalitium Christianae Vitae following a Vatican investigation that uncovered severe abuses. The investigation found instances of physical, psychological, verbal, and sexual abuse, including 'sadism and violence,' cult-like control, and economic mismanagement. This action follows the expulsion of the group's founder, Luis Fernando Figari, last month, who was found guilty of sodomizing recruits and other abuses. The announcement was made by the Peruvian Bishops Conference and is unusual for its detailed public attribution of responsibility. The Vatican's investigators, including Archbishop Charles Scicluna, were involved in exposing the abuses, which had been reported as early as 2000 but largely ignored until recent years. The Pope and the Peruvian Bishops Conference have expressed regret and called for justice and reparation for the victims.
