John Panaligan, 57, has been arrested in Tepic, Mexico, nearly eight years after allegedly strangling Northbrook attorney Victor Jigar Patel to death in December 2016. Panaligan, who was on the U.S. Marshals' 15 Most Wanted list, reportedly lured Patel into a meeting under a false identity and killed him due to a pending civil lawsuit against him. After fleeing to Mexico, he was deported back to the U.S. following his capture by authorities. Patel was found dead in his office, and Panaligan was seen on surveillance video leaving the scene disguised in a trench coat and hat. The U.S. Marshals and Mexican authorities collaborated for years to locate him, with officials stating that justice will prevail. A press conference by Northbrook Police is scheduled to further discuss the details of the arrest.
