Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on new sex crime charges by a Manhattan grand jury ahead of his retrial in New York. The charges, which remain under seal until Weinstein's arraignment on September 18, were announced shortly after Weinstein underwent emergency heart surgery. His initial 2020 conviction for rape and sexual assault was overturned in April by the New York Court of Appeals due to the trial court erroneously admitting testimony from other accusers. Weinstein, who is currently serving a separate 16-year sentence in California for rape and sexual misconduct, continues to deny all allegations. The retrial is tentatively scheduled for November, with new charges potentially being consolidated into the case. Over 80 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct, making his cases significant milestones in the #MeToo movement.
