Kent A20 Road Closed for Police Shooting, Bomb Squad Disposal
A major police shooting incident occurred on Ashford Road (A20) in Hollingbourne, Kent, involving Sean O’Meara, a 36-year-old man who was shot by officers after wielding a chainsaw and reportedly holding an improvised explosive device (IED). The shooting took place during an attempted arrest on suspicion of assault, with O’Meara also wearing a gas mask and body armor, leading to serious injuries that are believed to be life-changing. Following the incident, the bomb disposal unit was called multiple times to safely dispose of hazardous items discovered at the scene, resulting in the indefinite closure of the A20 road and the establishment of a large cordon. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched an investigation into the use of force, including the deployment of baton rounds and a police dog prior to the shooting. Authorities continue to advise motorists to seek alternative routes due to the ongoing safety operations and road closure. The community remains affected by the disruption as specialists work to ensure the area is secured and safe.
