San Diego Wave and NWSL Face Employee Lawsuit

Five former employees have sued San Diego Wave FC and the NWSL, alleging racial discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, and other workplace violations. The lawsuit, filed in San Diego Superior Court, accuses the club of fostering a toxic work environment and failing to adequately investigate complaints, particularly concerning the leadership of team president Jill Ellis. Although Ellis is not named as a defendant, the suit frequently mentions her influence in perpetuating these issues. One plaintiff, Brittany Alvarado, claims the club did not accommodate her mental health needs and retaliated against her. The lawsuit also details a case where a woman, referred to as Jane Doe, was allegedly sexually assaulted by a coworker. Despite the club's denial of wrongdoing, it faces growing scrutiny over systemic issues within its organization.
