Mirabai Chanu on period

Mirabai Chanu finished fourth in the women's 49kg weightlifting event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, narrowly missing out on a bronze medal by just one kilogram with a total lift of 199kg. The Indian weightlifter, who previously won a silver in Tokyo, attributed her performance to feeling weak due to the third day of her menstrual cycle. She successfully lifted 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk, but failed to complete a final lift of 114kg that could have secured her a medal. Chanu expressed disappointment but remained proud of her effort, stating she managed well despite limited recovery time following an injury. The gold medal was won by China's Hou Zhihui, who set a new Olympic record with a total of 206kg. Mirabai vowed to work harder for future competitions, acknowledging that sometimes outcomes are beyond one's control.
