Santiaguito, Kanlaon Volcanoes Show Increased Activity, Threaten Nearby Regions

Multiple volcanoes around the world continue to show varied levels of activity. Guatemala's Santa Maria volcano, specifically the Santiaguito dome complex, experienced frequent explosions generating ash plumes up to 1 km high and block avalanches that sometimes resulted in pyroclastic flows. In Kamchatka, the Klyuchevskoy volcano's explosive activity increased with ash plumes reaching 5-6 km altitude, prompting aviation alerts as ash drifted northeast. Hawaii's Kīlauea volcano remains in a pause phase after its latest eruptive episode ended on July 20, with monitoring indicating that a new episode may begin soon based on inflation and seismic data. In the Philippines, Kanlaon Volcano showed decreased seismic activity but an increase in sulfur dioxide emissions; despite a lowered alert level allowing most evacuees to return home, a 4-kilometer permanent danger zone remains evacuated due to ongoing eruption risks. Additionally, at another volcano, activity ceased at one crater while lava flow continued slowly from another, indicating ongoing but reduced volcanic activity.
