Bronx Daycare Drug Mill Operator Sentenced

Felix Herrera Garcia, 35, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for operating a drug mill out of a Bronx daycare, resulting in the fentanyl overdose death of a 22-month-old boy, Nicholas Dominici, and the hospitalization of three other children. Garcia, along with his wife Grei Mendez and others, used the daycare as a front to store and distribute over 11 kilograms of fentanyl and heroin, hidden in secret compartments under the children's play area. After the incident, Garcia fled to Mexico but was later arrested. During sentencing, federal prosecutors highlighted the severe impact of the fentanyl epidemic in the U.S. and noted the calculated risk imposed on innocent children by running the operation in a daycare setting. Garcia expressed remorse for his actions. His wife and other accomplices also face charges related to the drug trafficking scheme.
