Sunderland SAMS project selects Oxa for autonomy

Oxa has been appointed as the autonomy provider for the Sunderland Advanced Mobility Shuttle (SAMS) project, which is set to launch in the first quarter of 2025. This initiative aims to demonstrate how autonomous shuttles can enhance connectivity within Sunderland while minimizing environmental impact. Councillor Michael Mordey highlighted the project's significance in Sunderland's smart city journey, emphasizing the focus on improving residents' quality of life through sustainable transport options. Oxa's expertise in autonomous vehicle technology will be crucial to achieving this vision, and CEO Gavin Jackson expressed excitement about modernizing public transport in the UK. The project will feature a Ford E-Transit shuttle, with passenger feedback collected to inform future developments. SAMS is supported by a consortium of partners and aims to establish safe and efficient transport solutions on public roads.
