Plapp Wins Giro Stage, Ulissi Takes Pink Jersey
Luke Plapp of Jayco AlUla won stage eight of the 2025 Giro d’Italia after a solo attack from a breakaway group with 45 kilometers to go, finishing 38 seconds ahead of Wilco Kelderman and Diego Ulissi. Plapp’s victory marks his first Grand Tour stage win and a significant comeback following wrist surgery. Diego Ulissi secured the overall leader’s pink jersey with his third-place finish, becoming the first Italian to lead the Giro since 2021. Ulissi now holds a 12-second lead over Lorenzo Fortunato and a 17-second margin over Primoz Roglic, who finished nearly five minutes behind in the peloton. Ulissi expressed pride at leading the race as it approaches his home region of Tuscany. The upcoming stage from Gubbio to Siena will feature challenging gravel roads.
