Tom Golisano Pledges $253M to Form National Children's Hospital Alliance

Rochester philanthropist Tom Golisano has pledged $253 million to establish the Golisano Children’s Alliance, a national network of 10 independently operating children’s hospitals named after him, aimed at enhancing pediatric care through collaboration and shared expertise. This donation, spread over five years, brings Golisano's lifetime charitable giving to over $1 billion, with a significant portion directed toward children’s health initiatives. The six newly funded hospitals across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic include Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Pennsylvania State University Health Children’s Hospital, University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, University of Maryland Children’s Hospital, West Virginia University Medicine Children’s Hospital, and University of Vermont Children’s Hospital. The alliance seeks to foster collaboration on advancing treatments, research funding, and healthcare policy improvements, with plans to expand nationally to about 40 more hospitals, particularly targeting the South and West in the coming years. The funding comes with no restrictions, trusting the hospitals to use it effectively to benefit children’s health and medical training. Hospital leaders highlight the alliance’s potential to significantly improve pediatric health care by sharing best practices and pioneering new treatments across state lines.
