The series, which follows a fictional basketball team called the Waves, allegedly uses the same name, colors, and iconography as Pepperdine's own NCAA team. The university claims that the show promotes themes contrary to its Christian values, such as substance use and profanity, causing potential brand confusion. Pepperdine seeks injunctive relief to prevent further use of its trademarks and unspecified monetary damages. Attempts to resolve the issue through direct communication with the companies were unsuccessful, prompting the lawsuit.
