The incident, occurring on August 30, involved Shaway's Ford F-150 leaving the road and crashing down an embankment. He has been charged with second-degree child abuse and possession of a controlled substance, with his bond set at $50,000. The child is currently in critical but stable condition at Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital. Authorities noted that Shaway was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and had previously been reported driving erratically. Investigations are ongoing, and toxicology results may lead to additional charges against Shaway.
