Delta State Celebrates 33 Years of Progress

Delta State, established on August 27, 1991, by General Ibrahim Babangida, has evolved significantly over its 33 years, growing from a region with minimal infrastructure to a vital economic hub in Nigeria, particularly in oil production. The state, which now comprises 25 local government areas and has a population exceeding 5.6 million, celebrates its diverse cultural heritage while striving for socio-economic development under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. The Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, emphasizes the importance of sharing the state's achievements, particularly in women empowerment and governance, where 22 out of 25 local government vice chairpersons are women. As a melting pot of various ethnic groups, Delta State has maintained a harmonious coexistence, positioning itself as a strategic player in national and international trade, thanks to its coastal access.
