UAE Executes Keralites After Court Upholds Sentences

Two Indian nationals from Kerala, Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu and Muraleedharan Perumthatta Valappil, have been executed in the United Arab Emirates following murder convictions. The UAE's highest court, the Court of Cassation, upheld their death sentences despite diplomatic efforts, including mercy petitions and pardon requests by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The executions were carried out on February 28, 2025, and the Indian Embassy has been in touch with the families, facilitating their participation in the last rites. This incident highlights the broader issue of Indian nationals on death row abroad, with the UAE having the highest number among foreign nations. The executions have brought attention to previous cases, such as Shahzadi Khan's execution in Abu Dhabi for child murder. The MEA expressed condolences and confirmed their continued legal support for Indians in similar situations abroad.
