Juries Convict Multiple Defendants Across Northeast
Juries returned guilty verdicts across the Northeast in multiple violent‑crime trials, with defendants facing lengthy prison terms and upcoming sentencing dates. In Long Island, a Riverhead man identified as Henry was convicted of fatally shooting a 23‑year‑old after a fistfight in Bellport and faces 25 years to life when sentenced in November. In Coventry, Deric Clarke, 43, was convicted of first‑degree sexual assault in a 2020 case and will be sentenced Dec. 5. In Buffalo, 49‑year‑old Alfonzo D. Quinney was found guilty of second‑degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon for the Sept. 6, 2024, killing of 28‑year‑old Elijah Mingo and faces up to 25 years to life at a Nov. 17 sentencing. A Stamford jury convicted Ian Evans of first‑degree manslaughter with a firearm, first‑degree assault and criminal use of a firearm in the Sept. 20, 2020, shooting that killed Shernetta Dunmore (he was acquitted of murder) and he is due to be sentenced Nov. 7; Jonathan Melendez was convicted of second‑degree murder and related counts in the August 2023 killing of 88‑year‑old Rena Eves and faces up to 25 years to life to run consecutive to an existing 29‑year term (sentencing Dec. 8), and Frankie DeJesus was convicted of the 2022 murder of 18‑year‑old William Beltran and awaits sentencing Dec. 16.
