Lizzo Stars, Produces Sister Rosetta Tharpe Biopic

Lizzo is set to star in her first leading film role as Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the upcoming biopic 'Rosetta,' produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Known as the 'Godmother of Rock and Roll,' Tharpe was a pioneering gospel singer and guitarist whose influence spanned rock n’ roll and rhythm and blues, impacting artists like Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. The film, written by Natalie Chaidez and Kwynn Perry, will portray Tharpe's life during a time of innovation and personal challenges, including societal constraints and a concealed love. Lizzo, who is also a producer on the project, expressed her excitement on social media, emphasizing the importance of reclaiming rock n’ roll for Black artists. This role marks a significant step in Lizzo's acting career, following appearances in 'Hustlers,' 'The Mandalorian,' and 'Watch Out For the Big Grrrls.'
