Abbott Laboratories has launched its Lingo continuous glucose monitor in the U.S. as an over-the-counter device aimed at non-diabetic consumers seeking to track their glucose levels for health and wellness purposes. The Lingo biosensor, which attaches to the back of the arm and lasts for up to 14 days, continuously streams glucose data to a smartphone app that offers tailored health insights and recommendations. The device is priced at $49 for one sensor, $89 for a two-pack, and $249 for a six-pack. This launch follows a similar release by rival Dexcom, which markets its Stelo Glucose Biosensor at $89 for two units. Both companies aim to expand the market for continuous glucose monitors beyond diabetic patients to health-conscious individuals. Despite their popularity, there is limited evidence supporting the efficacy of such devices in optimizing blood sugar for non-diabetic users.
