Nigeria in Olympic quarterfinals

The Nigeria women's basketball team, D'Tigress, made history by becoming the first African team, male or female, to reach the quarter-finals at the Olympics, following a 79-70 victory over Canada. This landmark achievement was celebrated widely, including acknowledgement from basketball legend Dwyane Wade. D'Tigress's journey to this point included a strong start with a win against Australia, a loss to France, and a decisive comeback against Canada, where they dominated the third quarter with a 23-5 run. Ezinne Kalu was instrumental in the victory, scoring 21 points. The Nigeria Basketball Federation praised the team’s performance, highlighting the importance of their youth development programs, which are also seeing success in continental competitions. D'Tigress will next face the defending champions, the USA, in the quarter-finals scheduled for Wednesday.
