Samoa Men's Rugby Coach Resigns Amid Charges

Mahonri Schwalger has resigned as the coach of the Samoa men's rugby team amid serious criminal charges, including unlawful sexual connection and indecent assault. His resignation was accepted by the Samoa Rugby Union, following a suspension initiated in September after the charges were filed. Chairman Tuilaepa Dr. Sailele Malielegaoi noted that Schwalger's leadership had seen the team achieve significant milestones, including a notable victory over Italy. The search for a new head coach will begin as the union aims to continue the growth and success of Manu Samoa in international rugby. Schwalger, a former captain and experienced player, had taken over the coaching role in April after the previous coach's departure post-2023 World Cup. His contributions to Samoa rugby will be acknowledged despite the ongoing legal issues.
