Poland Arrests Ukrainian Woman for Organ Trafficking, Seeks Extradition

Polish border guards have arrested a 35-year-old Ukrainian woman, Ksenia P., who was sentenced to 12 years in prison in Kazakhstan for her role in an international organ trafficking network. Detained at a railway crossing between Poland and Ukraine, her arrest was facilitated by an Interpol red notice due to her being wanted since November 2020. Ksenia P. was implicated in the illegal sale of 56 kidneys from victims across multiple countries, including Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Thailand, from 2017 to 2019. Polish prosecutors have filed a motion for her temporary detention to facilitate extradition to Kazakhstan. However, details remain unclear regarding why she was not imprisoned in Kazakhstan prior to her arrest.
