The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced a new policy for public Ganesha Mandals to promote an eco-friendly Ganeshotsav, allowing those with ten years of compliance to receive five-year permits for pandal construction. Starting August 6, 2024, mandals can apply online through a one-window system, with a nominal fee of Rs. 100, but must renew their permits annually while maintaining adherence to local regulations. Each mandal is required to submit a self-declaration of compliance and obtain no-objection certificates from local and traffic police for permit renewal. This initiative aligns with the Maharashtra government's directives to reward compliant mandals and enhance the festival's sustainability. The Ganeshotsav will commence on September 7, with additional eco-friendly measures such as providing free shadu soil and mandap space for idol makers. The BMC emphasizes that first-time celebrants will only receive permits valid for the current year.
