Broward Assistant Coach Arrested, Linked to Earlier Fight

Jamir Clarke, a 29-year-old assistant football coach at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla., was arrested after deputies say he struck at least three students during a team meeting at practice after confronting a player about negative social-media posts concerning a relative who is the team’s quarterback. Arrest reports and video show Clarke called a player a profanity, punched him, then began “swinging,” striking multiple students and damaging a mirror before deputies found him sitting in a locked weight room. He was booked on multiple counts of child abuse without great bodily harm (reports vary from four to eight counts); a judge set bond at $30,000 ($7,500 per count) and ordered no contact with the victims or other minors, banned him from returning to Broward schools and restricted firearms. Broward Schools officials confirmed a separate early-September incident at Monarch High School in which Clarke is seen fighting students; the district has reassigned him, said he will no longer serve as an assistant coach at Blanche Ely, and is reviewing both incidents for possible termination while the Broward Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation.
