Over 1,000 Mariachis Gather in Mexico City

More than 1,000 mariachis gathered in Mexico City's main plaza on Sunday, performing classics like 'Cielito Lindo' in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest mariachi gathering, surpassing the previous record of 700 in Guadalajara. The event marked the conclusion of the city's first Mariachi Congress, celebrating this significant musical tradition. Many musicians expressed their joy and pride, with Jesús Morales sharing how his family instilled a love for mariachi music in him from a young age. Aida Juárez, a pioneering female mariachi, emphasized her pride in breaking the record as a representation of Mexican heritage. The gathering attracted diverse attendees, underlining the universal appeal of mariachi music. The Guinness World Records has yet to confirm whether the record was officially broken.
