UK TV Magician Wayne Dobson Dies Aged 68 After MS Battle
Wayne Dobson, a celebrated 1980s TV magician known for his sharp humor and dazzling tricks, has died at the age of 68 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis, which he was diagnosed with in 1988. Dobson began his magic career early, joining the Leicester Magic Circle at just 16, and gained wider recognition after winning the International Brotherhood of Magicians British Ring Convention and appearing on Blue Peter. His career flourished as he performed with notable entertainers such as Dame Shirley Bassey, Freddie Starr, and Engelbert Humperdinck, including supporting Humperdinck on an American tour and performing at the 1989 Royal Variety Show alongside Frank Bruno and Harry Carpenter. Despite his illness, Dobson remained active in magic, serving as an ambassador for the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre and continuing to perform live shows until 2022. Fellow magicians and colleagues have paid tribute to his enduring impact on the magic community and his status as a household name in UK entertainment. His brother and business partner expressed deep sorrow over his passing, underscoring the loss felt in both his personal and professional circles.
