Tasmanian Police Officer Resigns After Child Abuse Charges

A 54-year-old Tasmania Police officer has been charged with accessing child abuse material after an investigation initiated by the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. The officer has been suspended pending legal proceedings and faces a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted. Joint investigations by Tasmania Police and the Australian Federal Police led to the arrest, during which electronic devices containing the alleged material were seized from homes in Launceston and Hobart.
