Steve McMichael, Chicago Bears Hall of Famer, dies at 67
Steve 'Mongo' McMichael, legendary Chicago Bears defensive tackle and Pro Football Hall of Famer, has died at age 67 after a four-year battle with ALS. McMichael, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2024, was a key figure in the Bears' dominant 1985 Super Bowl championship team and played a franchise-record 191 consecutive games. Drafted by the New England Patriots in 1980, he spent the majority of his 15-year NFL career with the Bears before finishing with the Green Bay Packers. Known for his relentless playing style, McMichael accumulated 95 career sacks and 847 tackles. After retiring from football, he had a successful stint in professional wrestling and later worked as a commentator and coach. His passing, announced by Jarrett Payton, was preceded by a rapid decline in health and entry into hospice care.
