UEFA Fines Serbia for Racist Fan Behavior

UEFA has imposed sanctions on Serbia's football federation due to racist behavior by fans during Nations League matches against Switzerland and Denmark. Fans attempted to burn an Albanian flag, reflecting ongoing ethnic tensions, prompting UEFA to charge the federation with 'racist and/or discriminatory behavior'. The penalties include partial stadium closures for two home games, a ban on ticket sales for the next two away games, and financial fines totaling €173,000, with €90,000 specifically related to discriminatory behavior. These sanctions follow a history of misconduct by Serbian fans, including incidents at Euro 2024 and the 2022 World Cup. The sanctions will take effect in March when Serbia faces Austria in the Nations League playoffs. Additionally, UEFA is set to confirm Serbia and Albania as co-hosts of the Under-21 European Championship in 2027.
