Ernie Hudson Joins Boston Blue Expansion Series

Ernie Hudson has joined CBS’s upcoming Blue Bloods expansion series, Boston Blue, as a series regular, portraying Reverend Peters, the patriarch of a prominent Boston law enforcement family and a renowned pastor. Reverend Peters is the father of the city’s District Attorney and grandfather to detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), who partners with Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan. Boston Blue is described as an expansion of the Blue Bloods universe, not a direct spinoff, and will air Fridays at 10 p.m. this fall in the former Blue Bloods timeslot. The series is produced by CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer TV, with Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis as showrunners and Anthony Hemingway directing the premiere episode. Hudson’s character is depicted as open-minded and welcoming, leading a historic Baptist church in Boston. The series aims to continue the family and law enforcement themes of its predecessor in a new Boston setting.
