Customs Seize 54 Pounds Marijuana At Pittsburgh Airport, Woman Arrested
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Pittsburgh International Airport intercepted more than 54 pounds of marijuana in the luggage of Jetta Monet Corbett, a 30-year-old woman from Brockton, Massachusetts, who was traveling to London. The marijuana, found in 49 vacuum-sealed packages inside two suitcases, has an estimated street value of $240,000 and could have been worth two to three times more in Europe. Corbett was arrested by Allegheny County police and faces felony charges including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and a misdemeanor possession charge. Although bulk marijuana seizures at Pittsburgh airport are rare, CBP officials have noted a growing trend of transnational criminal organizations attempting to transport marijuana via passenger baggage and express air delivery to Europe and Africa, where the drug generates high profits. CBP's acting port director, James Hindes, warned individuals against carrying bulk marijuana loads for trafficking organizations, emphasizing the severe consequences and CBP's commitment to seizing such shipments to disrupt illicit revenue streams. Last year, CBP seized an average of 1,571 pounds of dangerous drugs at various U.S. ports, underscoring ongoing enforcement efforts.
