Shreyas Iyer Stable After Grade‑2 Splenic Injury
India vice‑captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a left lower rib‑cage impact while taking a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey in the third ODI at the SCG on Oct. 25, left the field in pain, did not bat and was replaced in the squad by Yashasvi Jaiswal. He was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney after his vitals dropped; CT scans showed a lacerated spleen with internal bleeding classified as a grade‑two splenic injury. Medical teams arrested the bleeding with a non‑surgical procedure, he was monitored in ICU and has since been moved out of ICU and is medically stable. The BCCI says he is eating and walking and a repeat scan on Oct. 28 showed significant improvement, with Indian and Australian specialists continuing close monitoring while the board arranges for his family to join him in Sydney. Rehabilitation and fitness assessments are expected once he is medically cleared, and there is still no confirmed date for his return to cricket.
